Our story

Elena is the artist and creator behind The Sewing Sailor. 

She in love with crafting, creating and nature since she was a child.

Elena grew up in Italy visiting Art Museums and doing gardening with her mum and learning from her creative family all their amazing skills, immerse in the beauty of the Italian countryside, making these to become her own heritage and passions.

Elena is a creative addicted and an unstoppable gardener.

After travelling the world as a professional athlete, she spent 5 years sailing around the world, never stopping creating, mainly sewing. This is where the name of the shop comes from and she simply loves it!

On the way Elena have been lucky enough to discover wonderful places and fall even more in love with nature.

She became a scuba diving instructor  and have been deeply touched by ocean pollution, actively cleaning up and replanting corals in the reef.

In March 2020 she decided to give it a go to watercolors, a new medium to her, connected to water.

Her childhood and travels are her main inspiration, nature her muse, environment conservation her mission.

The Sewing Sailor products are all handmade by Elena in New Zealand, from A to NZ, with special attention for every detail. She reproduces her watercolour paintings into luxury stationery, 100% handmade.

Being a great supporter of the environment, Elena uses eco friendly, recycled, luxury materials, with recycled and biodegradable packaging.
